"stop being a mindless slave and quit your boring job and go do what you really want, using the money you obviously have, because I don’t understand class struggles or intersectionality"
When dudes are like, “Oh, I believe in equal pay because I have a daughter,” like they could not imagine that women were worth equal pay before they had one they cared about. Jesus. Fucking. Christ.
Ah, the narcissistic father type.
I keep hearing that Javik has haters and I’m just like ?????? Really?? How?
All I ever heard from him before getting him were (abut overdone) jokes about how cool he is like??
Let’s play another round of Who Has the Biggest Victim Complex?:
- A. neurotypical people
- B. white people
- C. straight people
- D. cis people
but what about men?
for once “but what about men” was a phenomenal addition to one of my posts and I applaud you
I’m probably never going to stop being upset about how they changed Ashley’s look. :(
I just REALLY liked the way she looked in ME1 and 2, okay? The very first time we see her she’s shoving somebody out of the line of fire and shooting robots with her huge space-future assault rifle, while…
It’s especially jarring when you consider how femShep, Samantha, and the rest of the Alliance ladies wear the usual Alliance regulation outfit and then Ash is basically Miranda 2.0. I like Miranda, don’t get me wrong, but it just seems like the dev team made Ash into the designated sexy lady because Miranda wasn’t a main character anymore.
Hell, I once saw a bioware forum post that had a fan edit of Ash in bulky armor not unlike what James wears, and cue dudebros going “no!” and “it doens’t suit her!” and “she looks ugly in that!”.
And on the not-sexist side, there are fans who took it upon themselves to make mods to fix Ash, by putting her back in Alliance regs, giving her the bun back (or a ponytail in one case), and giving the women more realistic proportions. That at least makes me happy. But it still tells you something that fans took it upon themselves to fix these things because bioware screwed Ash over when it came to character design in ME3 because they wanted to pander to straight men.
Yeah, that bugs me too. Sometimes it almost feels like Ashley’s not really part of the crew anymore. :( (Not that I don’t have some issues with Samantha, but they’re due more to bad writing than bad character design.)
It’s not that I don’t want ANY of the female characters to be sexy. I really like Miranda, but I don’t see any reason why an established character needed to be so heavily changed to be more like her. It’s not right.
I’m pretty sure there’s an underlying sexist ‘we pink girly girls are annoying’ shit going on with the colour change too.
